HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Immerse yourself in the stunning landscapes of the Rhaetian Alps
  • Challenge yourself on a 5-day trek along the Adamello High Route
  • Camp or stay in high-altitude mountain huts and enjoy the alpine atmosphere
  • Observe unique biological adaptations and geological features
  • Enjoy the support of a certified mountain leader throughout the trek

This five-day expedition traverses the Alta Via dell'Adamello n.1, a premier high-altitude route across the granitic heart of the Rhaetian Alps. Designed as a semi-autonomous trek, this itinerary demands physical endurance and technical focus as we navigate glacial moraines and rugged periglacial landscapes. Our logistics are built around a "hybrid" wilderness model: we camp in the immediate proximity of high-altitude mountain huts (rifugi). This allows you to experience the raw beauty of the Adamello Massif while maintaining access to the huts as essential bases for dinner, fresh water, and emergency shelter. For those who prefer a lighter pack, the huts also offer the option to upgrade to a bed indoors. It is an authentic mountain odyssey requiring a high level of preparedness for shifting alpine weather and the physical rigors of one of Italy’s most prestigious high routes.

What's included?

  • Certified Leadership: An English-speaking, local Mountain Leader (UIMLA) dedicated to your group 24/7 for the full 5 days.
  • Emergency Safety: Peace of mind with satellite messaging and GPS tracking for emergency communication in remote areas.
  • Technical Briefing: A private pre-trip consultation to refine your gear list, coordinate logistics, and provide a strategic overview of the itinerary.
  • Expert Planning: Comprehensive organization of the traverse, including all necessary hut reservations and logistical coordination.
  • Navigation & Guidance: Access to our carefully curated GPX tracks and expert route knowledge.
  • Preparation Guides: Upon registration, you’ll receive a professional kit list and a guide to backcountry nutrition and high-altitude supplies.

What’s not included:

  • Hut Accommodation & Meals: If you choose to stay indoors, budget approximately €60 per night for half-board (dinner, bed in a shared room, and breakfast).
  • Guide’s Expenses: A total of approximately €240 to be split among the participants. This covers the guide's food and lodging; however, this cost may be lower as our guides often prefer to camp outdoors when weather conditions permit.
  • Transportation: Travel to the meeting point at the start of the trek and the bus/train from the finish line back to Cedegolo (approx. €10).
  • Trail Food: Packed lunches, energy snacks, and electrolytes for the 5-day duration.

PROGRAM:
Day 1: Val Saviore – Rifugio Adamè Upon departure from the designated parking area, the expedition initiates by tracking the primary watercourse of Val Saviore. The route progresses toward a significant altitudinal transition, ascending into Val Adamè—a textbook example of a hanging glacial valley sculpted by the historical retreat of the Pian di Neve ice field. The final segment of the day’s traverse follows a low-angle gradient across stable, alluvial terrain through the valley basin. We will conclude the stage at Rifugio Adamè, where the team will reconvene for dinner and overnight accommodation within the mountain hut’s facilities.

Day 2: Rifugio Adamè – Rifugio Gnutti Following breakfast, we initiate the day’s traverse by ascending the orographic right slope of the valley toward Passo di Poia. The subsequent descent is characterized by a steep gradient, leading to Rifugio Prudenzini, where we will halt for mid-day logistical recovery and refreshments. The second phase of the day involves another ascent on the right flank, transitioning from Val Salarno into Val Miller. The stage concludes at Rifugio Gnutti, our base for dinner and overnight accommodation.

Day 3: Rifugio Gnutti – Rifugio Tonolini (with Optional Cima Plem) Departure from Rifugio Gnutti directed toward the Lago Rotondo basin. Statistically, this represents the stage with the lowest physical demand of the expedition, providing an opportunity for active recovery. However, for participants seeking higher technical engagement, an optional ascent to Cima Plem (3,180m) is available. This peak offers a significant high-altitude vantage point before we reconvene at Rifugio Tonolini for dinner and overnight lodging.

Day 4: Rifugio Tonolini – Rifugio Garibaldi The route commences with a circuit around the lake followed by a sustained ascent to Passo di Premassone. Upon reaching the col, the itinerary demands a technical descent; this section is steep and requires the use of fixed safety chains for stabilization as we descend toward the floor of Val d’Avio. After traversing a prominent rocky spur extending from the Adamello massif, we arrive at the Lago Venercolo basin. We will conclude the day's operations at Rifugio Garibaldi for dinner and rest.

Day 5: Rifugio Garibaldi – Temù The final phase involves a steady descent toward the Avio Lakes. As we lose altitude, the trail infrastructure becomes progressively wider and more established, marking the transition from high-alpine wilderness back to anthropogenic environments. The expedition formally concludes in the municipality of Temù.

The Adamello High Route No. 1:

Five-Day Alpine Wilderness Expedition Experience a profound immersion in glacial morphology on this five-day traverse of the Adamello High Route No. 1 (Alta Via dell'Adamello). This premier high-altitude expedition across the Adamello Massif is designed as a semi-autonomous trek, demanding high-level physical endurance and navigational focus across rugged granitic terrain and periglacial landscapes. This is a sustained mountain odyssey that requires participants to be in peak physical condition. Over the course of five days, you will cover:

Total Distance: 40 km (~25 miles)
Total Elevation Gain: 3,050 meters (~10,010 feet)
Terrain: Technical alpine trails, boulder fields, and high-altitude passes.
Participant suitability: This expedition is strictly for experienced mountain hikers.

Participants must be capable of sustaining significant physical effort over consecutive days in a remote, high-altitude environment. You should be comfortable moving across uneven, technical ground and be prepared for the mental and physical rigors of a self-sufficient traverse.
To ensure the safety and cohesion of the group, all participants are required to have a consultation with the lead guide after booking. This technical briefing serves to confirm your experience level, review the detailed itinerary, and finalize your specific gear requirements.

Wild Camping vs. Mountain Huts: The primary logistical framework is built around alpine camping, allowing participants to remain fully integrated with the environment. However, for those seeking additional recovery infrastructure or a lighter pack, overnight stays in historic mountain huts (rifugi) are available as an optional upgrade.
Hut Management: Your guide will manage all hut reservations for you.
Payment: You will pay the rifugio directly upon arrival. The estimated cost for half-board (dinner, breakfast, and overnight stay) is approximately 60€ per person/night.
Important: You must bring sufficient cash for these payments, as electronic payment systems are often unavailable at high altitudes.

The Weight Factor: We strongly recommend the mountain hut upgrade for anyone who does not own high-quality, ultralight camping gear. Carrying a heavy, non-technical backpack (exceeding 15kg) across 3,000+ meters of gain will significantly compromise your safety and the group's pace. Your guide is available for a full consultation before the trip to help you perfection your gear list.
