Punta Almana, Queen of the Lake

This 8.6 km mountain itinerary targets Punta Almana, one of the most prominent natural balconies overlooking the central basin of Lake Iseo. The trek departs from Portole (Sale Marasino), an elevated hamlet that serves as a scenic terrace over the water. The initial sector involves a steady climb through a dense mix of broad-leaved and coniferous forests, providing a high-tranquility environment before the final ridge push.

The technical difficulty increases in the upper section as the trail emerges from the treeline. The route follows a more demanding path toward the summit cross, where the terrain offers a full-scale view of the lake, Monte Isola, and the surrounding Prealpine chain. The summit provides a strategic point for observing the contrast between the lake morphology and the high-altitude Alpine peaks to the north. The return leg descends through sheltered forest paths back toward Portole. The experience includes a structured lunch stop at Osteria Pastina or a descent into the lakeside town of Sale Marasino for traditional regional cuisine.
