Hiking Lake Iseo
Monte Guglielmo, King of the Lake
Monte Guglielmo, King of the Lake
Starting location is Marone. View it here.
This 8.4 km high-altitude route targets the summit of Monte Guglielmo (Guglielmo Massif), the highest peak in the Brescia Prealps. The trek initiates at Rifugio Croce di Marone, serving as a high-elevation trailhead that minimizes the initial ascent from the valley floor. The trail follows a technical progression through fir forests before transitioning into high-altitude alpine pastures characterized by active summer grazing and rural malghe (shepherd huts).
The final approach to the summit involves a sustained climb to reach the Redentore Monument and chapel (built 1902). This peak serves as the primary regional vantage point, offering a 360-degree technical view that encompasses the entire Alpine Arch, the Adamello Glacier, and the Lombardy lakes. The descent provides two logistical options for regional gastronomy: a high-altitude meal at Rifugio Almici, located near the summit, or a return to the village of Zone for traditional mountain fare.
